THURSDAY KEYNOTE ADDRESS - Dr. Shahana Alibhai
Dr. Shahana Alibhai is a TEDx speaker, family physician and mental health advocate. As a lead physician at one of British Columbia’s largest youth health centers, much of Dr. Shahana’s career is focused on those struggling with their mental health. Her insights are highly sought after and she has been featured in multiple major media including CTV and Global. Dr. Shahana has been privileged to work with New York Times Bestselling author Adrian Gostick in order to publish her own book, “Feel Better” to be released in May 2024.

Mary Bertucci (she/her/hers) is an English-language instructor and writer living in Metro Vancouver. She loves to develop thoughtful, diverse curriculum for beginner-level EAL students. She is currently an instructor in the LINC program at S.U.C.C.E.S.S in Vancouver and the author of A Powwow Story. Mary will also be presenting on Friday. Mary Bertucci |
Dr. Dustin Louie
Dr. Louie is a Dakelh scholar, Associate Professor, and Director of NITEP at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Louie has a BA in history from the University of Calgary, an MA in Human Security and Peacebuilding from Royal Roads University and a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary. Dr. Louie has worked extensively in teacher education, both pre-service and in-service, while also leading dozens of school districts, government agencies and social service organizations through decolonizing transformation of their philosophy, organization and practices. |
Stefan Stipp
Stefan was a classroom teacher in Surrey for 23 years and currently works as a Vice-Principal in Surrey, BC. A primary focus of his teaching practice was building communities of thinkers in his Social Studies, English, Career Education and Psychology classes. Stefan has taught and mentored students as a Faculty Associate with Simon Fraser University and he teaches a Social Studies Methods course at the University of the Fraser Valley. His contributions to TC² include authoring and contributing to various publications including the recently published Teaching Historical Thinking.

Dr. Alec Couros |
Dr. Alec Couros is the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Regina. He received his Bachelor and Master of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan and then completed his PhD in Education at the University of Regina. He also holds the position of Professor of Educational Technology and Media in the Faculty of Education.
Dr. Couros is an internationally recognized leader, innovator, and speaker who has given hundreds of keynotes and workshops around the globe on diverse topics such as open education, networked learning, digital citizenship, and critical media literacy. He is also a passionate advocate of openness in education and demonstrates this commitment through his open access publications, considerable digital presence and contributions, and highly successful MOOCs and open boundary courses. Dr. Couros has received numerous awards for innovation in teaching and learning. |
Dr. Julie Clayton is Tipping Point’s Clinical Director and a Certified Trauma Therapist/Registered Clinical Counsellor. She has worked for over 32 years supporting clients working through a wide spectrum of life challenges, including: recovery from trauma, grief and loss, addictions recovery, transition/employment readiness, anxiety and depression, and spirituality or faith-based recovery. |

Roberta Power |
Roberta Power is a longtime English instructor. Now, she is the Educational Consultant in Canada for the not-for-profit ProLiteracy, New Readers Press whose mission is to raise adult literacy rates globally. Two years ago, Roberta asked if she could represent New Readers Press after using their books in her class and witnessing how well received they were. |
